Albert Pujols Talking To Miami Marlins
November 11, 2011 - 12:47 am by Ryan PhillipsWe mentioned the other day that the Florida Miami Marlins were making a big push in free agency this winter and that will continue as the fish are scheduled to be the first team to meet with St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols. Pujols and his agent Dan Lozano will meet with the Marlins within the next few days.
Miami - which the Marlins will officially become today - has already had talks with shortstop Jose Reyes and the team has already been linked to left-handed pitchers Mark Buehrle and C.J. Wilson, and are likely to talk to Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder as well.
Clearly the Marlins are trying to make a big splash (I really didn’t mean to make a fish/water pun there so please forgive me) as they enter their new stadium this spring. Miami reportedly has plenty of money to spend, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if they end up overspending on a few guys they think can make an impact.
Most experts expect Pujols to end up back in St. Louis, but it’s a pretty big coup for the Marlins to be the first team to sit down with him. It puts them on the map as major players in free agency this winter.
