I can't figure out how I feel about Joey Votto's 10-year, $225 million extension with the Cincinnati Reds. It seems like a good deal in certain respects, but the gamble the Reds are taking on him shouldn't be that big of a deal when this is essentially a regular contract ...

San Diego Padres outfielder Will Venable being the first hitter faced by $100 million Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish isn't exactly the kind of confrontation you'll be telling your grandkids about. Or even your coworkers.

On Saturday the San Diego Padres and center fielder Cameron Maybin officially agreed to a five-year contract worth $25 million. It appears, for once, the Padres were actually willing to open up the checkbook and lock a young talent up for a long time.
Maybin will turn 25 on April 4 ...

San Diego Padres Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn underwent surgery to remove a new cancerous tumor inside his right cheek on Tuesday. Gwynn, who is currently the head baseball coach at San Diego State, previously had a malignant growth removed from the same spot in August 2010.
