Randy Cunneyworth was named interim coach of the Montreal Canadiens this weekend when the team fired Jacques Martin. Cunneyworth is Canadian so one could assume that a Canadian coaching the Canadiens would be enough to placate the fan base.
Ah, but you see these are Canadiens, not Canadians.
And those French Canadians ...

The New Jersey Devils and winger Ilya Kovalchuk agreed to a 17-year, $102 million contract on Monday in a move that has universally been decreed as crazy. It must especially seem so to those who don't understand the economics of hockey and probably don't comprehend that the deal is a ...

After watching the spectacular gold medal game between the U.S. and Canada, one distinct thought stood out in my mind. Forget the fact that I just witnessed the most exciting and most dramatic hockey game I had ever seen. Who cares that I played the under 5.5 goals on a whim and won even though I don't ...

Did everyone see that Wednesday night? Seriously, did you see how Canada completely dismantled a very talented group of Russian hockey players?
At some point during Canada's 7-3 win, did you ever think what the score would have been against Team USA if the Canadians played with the same mix of ...

In the movie "Being John Malkovich," ordinary people enter a portal that brings them inside John Malkovich's brain.
The other night, I entered a similar portal that brought me inside the brain of a Canadian after USA's 5-3 hockey victory. The following song is a result of that journey. (Remember, if ...

While the United States continues to dominate the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, everyone paused yesterday so the host nation could play a little hockey against its neighbor to the south. It was lovely of the Canadians to allow the Americans on the ice and show us how to play ...

I don't want to cause a commotion that shakes the very foundations of the sports blogosphere or anything, but there was a monumental shift in the world of hockey last night. That tremor you felt came straight out of the heart of the buzzing metropolis that is Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at ...

If there's one thing we're looking forward to around here it's the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It is going to be sweet. The luge. Curling. Bobsled. Ahhh the frigid good times.
One of the best parts is the hockey tournament. Lots of nationalism and what not. Team USA as the ...

I know hockey is a niche sport. But if you can’t get excited about Olympic hockey, then I question your sports fandom. It's the best Olympic team sport out there. Far superior to basketball, which is basically a three-team tournament (and that's only a new occurrence).
On paper, the United States ...

This is perhaps the best shootout goal I've ever seen.
It's so nasty I'd like to see Alex Ovechkin try it out the next time the Capitals are in a shootout. Seriously. I'm not even sure he could duplicate it.
But that man actually doing it is a Swedish fella by the ...
