Foppa Finds Spot on Team Sweden
December 29, 2009 - 12:49 am by TheRiotIf there’s one thing we’re looking forward to around here it’s the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It is going to be sweet. The luge. Curling. Bobsled. Ahhh the frigid good times.
One of the best parts is the hockey tournament. Lots of nationalism and what not. Team USA as the underdog and such. We’ll get into details breaking down that particular tournament at a later date.
What’s news now is many teams are announcing their official rosters.
Among them, the Swedes figure to have a very powerful team, as always, and made room for one of the best players in the country’s history on the roster.
Former NHL MVP Peter Forsberg, who ended a comeback to the state side league last year because of nagging ankle injuries, has been playing with Modo in the Swedish Elite League and is apparently healthy enough to join his countrymen for the Olympics.
Forsberg if nothing else brings a wealth of experience. He played an integral in Sweden’s gold medal in 1994 (if scoring the clincher in a shootout against Canada is integral) and assisted on the game-winner in 2006 when the Swedes also won gold.
Team Sweden will be formidable, so it remains to be seen how the veteran center will find his way in the mix.
But his teammates have to feel good about having Foppa around for another go-round.
