Where Will The Philadelphia Eagles Send Kevin Kolb?

It has become increasingly apparently that, barring an incredibly turn of events, Michael Vick will be the quarterback of the future in Philadelphia. That leaves now-backup quarterback, Kevin Kolb sitting by with a big contract and no playing time. That’s not a good situation for the Eagles money-wise, since they’ll have to sign Vick to a contract extension at some point.
After giving Kolb an extension back in April that gave him $10.7 million in guarantees for this season and 2011, the Eagles have to move him if he’s not going to play. They can’t just release him because the salary cap hit would be ridiculous (assuming the NFL re-instates a salary cap with its next collective bargaining agreement). That means Kolb must be traded.
Kolb has performed pretty well when this year while replacing an injured Vick. He can clearly play quarterback in the NFL. In six games he’s completed 97-of-153 passes (63.4 completion percentage), for 1,035 yards, with six touchdowns and four interceptions. That gives him an 85.3 quarterback rating. Considering this is his first real season with a chance to start and the fact that he’s only 26-years-old, someone will definitely take a shot at getting him.
So what teams will look into acquiring Kolb? We’ll just go ahead and break down the contenders.
Arizona Cardinals
Let’s face it, the Derek Anderson-Max Hall thing hasn’t worked out too well. Considering the fact that Ken Whisenhunt might be out of a job after the season following a series of embarrassing blunders, a new regime might want a new quarterback. Even if “The Whis” is still around next season, he has to know the team needs new blood under center. Considering the Cardinals last first round pick of a quarterback didn’t work out to well when Matt Leinart couldn’t ever really grab the starting job, we don’t think the Cards would look to the draft for a solution. The Cardinals make the most sense right now.
Buffalo Bills
They could end up with the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft, which means they’d have a shot at Stanford’s Andrew Luck. While Ryan Fitzpatrick has actually played decently since taking the starting job, the Bills are another team that might need some new blood at quarterback. If the Bills don’t target a quarterback in the draft - and the failures of J.P. Losman and Trent Edwards could deter them - Kolb also makes sense here.
Minnesota Vikings
Brad Childress is likely going to be fired. That would send the one person who has confidence in Tarvaris Jackson out of town. Clearly the Vikings will be looking for someone who can step in and play right away, not sit and develop.
Oakland Raiders
Let’s face it, they just want to find someone, anyone, who can play the position competently. The roster currently has Jason Campbell, Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller. They’ve also been known to overpay in trades to get players before (see: Seymour, Richard), so they could probably make the Eagles a great offer.
San Francisco 49ers
Troy Smith doesn’t exactly instill long-term confidence in anyone. With Alex Smith likely out for the 49ers and David Carr as the backup, Kolb could step in and immediately elevate the position.
So where will Kolb land? Your guess is as good as ours, but we’d have to say the Cardinals and Raiders look like the two teams that are the most desperate for stability at quarterback. We’d bet he heads to Arizona, or Oakland, with Buffalo and Minnesota in the next group of likely suitors.

Why do you guys always talk about the Black player’s contract and salaries? Why not dwell on the contracts and salaries for white players?
And, just because you get some uncle tom to raise the issue doesn’t give you king’s “X.”
What about the Manning contracts? The Brady contract? Brees’ contract?
Do white players not have contracts?
Well here is the answer - it is the inherent discomfort you all get at the fact that Black people actually get paid money for anything!!

Lee, you are certainly stupid. i can smell your ignorance through my monitor! being an Eagles fan i would like Kolb to stay but if they keep Vick there will be very limited playing time for Kolb. if that is the case than trade him because he deserves to be a starter.

Living in Philadelphia, we all knew Kolb would go down after the 1st hit. He’s not built to be behind that o line. Kolb if Childress stays(which he wont) will be a Viking or a Card. We tried the Oakland thing with Mcnabb and the offered a top notch safety and even they’re best corner. Buffalo is going to stick with Ryan and draft someone. Oh, and Lee…i am black and usually am for that kinda statement, but it doesnt fit here. all the qb’s you named earn that kind of money because they are that good. cmon… duh!

The birds are making a huge mistake trading Kolb. This team is now stuck in the same rut it was in for 11 years with McNabb. They will rely on Vicks legs and arm to win 10 or 11 games a year,provide he lasts, then lose to a good defense in the playoffs. You all remember Cunningham, don’t you. They will never be a complete, legit, Super Bowl contender with this style of football. TRADE VICK if you can find a taker. Then build a real football team around a real NFL quartback and RUN the ball with a purpose. Flash gets you style points and they don’t count for nothin!!! Andy, again gets a free pass with Vick and he knows it. Don’y get suckered back in to this crap…..I want a parade, I’m tired of the same old crap…

If we’ve learned anything in football, it’s this: You need a white QB to win a Superbowl. As a Giants fan, I hope the Eagles keep Vick so I can bask in Eagles fans’ misery for the next decade.
On a side note, if Kolb does get traded he will need to go to a west-coast style offense to be productive in his first couple seasons or possibly at all. He played the west-coast in college and mastered it with the Eagles, who are the west-coast gurus right now.
