10 am ET: It’s already week 11. I can’t believe the season has gone this quickly. I’m sleeping in this morning, but will be up just in time for the opening kick for, and quick demise of, Indiana at Penn State. Fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Enjoy the noon games.
1:48 pm ET: Penn State gave IU four turnovers in the first half, and the Hoosiers got points off exactly one of them. This could be a long second half.
4:27 pm ET: Hey, USC defense, STOP SUCKING.
6:16 pm ET: They didn’t listen. Toby Gerhart for Heisman!

Tennessee (5-4) at Mississippi (6-3) (-5)
Pick: Ole Miss wins but doesn’t cover
Final: Mississippi 42 Tennessee 17
Yeah, apparently Tennessee wasn’t ready to play with a vulnerable conference opponent. Dexter McCluster went off for 287 yards and four touchdowns. Monte Kiffin can’t be too happy with that result. It’s not like Ole Miss is hard to figure out. They were going to run the ball, Kiffin knew it, Houston Nutt knew it. Everyone knew it. Ole Miss totally took the game out of Jevan Snead’s hands and he STILL threw a pick. Dude’s a pretty big bust, though it’s not completely his fault. Like 95% his fault, but 5% isn’t. Just trying to make it a little better for him.

(7) Georgia Tech (9-1) at Duke (5-4) (+13)
Pick: Georgia Tech
Final: Georgia Tech 49 Duke 10
Duke had a nice first quarter, but after that Georgia Tech ran up 519 yards and 49 points. The Option Revolution continues! OK, I’m done celebrating a win over Duke

Indiana (4-6) at (18) Penn State (8-2) (-25)
Pick: Penn State wins but doesn’t cover
Final: Penn State 31 Indiana 20
Indiana was handed four turnovers in the first half and scored a total of ten points. The touchdown was the only points they actually got from a converted turnover. Just another symptom of a team that doesn’t know how to win yet. Notice how I said “yet.” Maybe they’ll learn from their mistakes over this offseason and come back next year able to maximize the turnovers they get and close games out with their defense. You know, that defense that’s losing like seven senior starters next year. Awesome.
As for Penn State, this has to be a legitimately disappointing season for their seniors. They really thought this team could be a force in the Big Ten, but they’re back to the slow, grinding offense they had before Derrick Williams. They’re once again without a playmaker. AND there’s rumors Evan Royster could declare for the draft after this year. Could be rough going in the future.
Still, Indiana has the Old Oaken Bucket game next week, and they have a real chance to stick it to Purdue regardless of the records. This game is going to be for nothing but pride, which is what it usually is, but that makes it more fun. And also sad because IU is a few close games away from nine wins.

Michigan (5-5) at (20) Wisconsin (7-2) (-9)

Michigan’s offense might be pretty good, but their defense is absolutely atrocious. It’s got a long way to go before it’s going to be a contributing factor in Michigan’s success. And that is totally Lloyd Carr’s fault. He didn’t recruit defense for shit his last few years in Ann Arbor. It’s the one part of the transition mess that isn’t Rich Rod’s fault. He’s got a lot of rebuilding to do on that side of the ball.
And Michigan really needs a running back. I mean my God, 79 yards rushing? This is the same offense that Pat White and Steve Slaton ran so well all those years. Just because they have Tate Forcier doesn’t make them a pass-first offense. This team needs a running back BAD.
But it’s a reclamation project up there in Michigan. It’s not going to be perfect overnight. Lloyd Carr managed to win eight games with talent like this, but the team sucked just as bad as this. So don’t get all on your high horse Michigan fans.

Well, it finally happened. Houston’s defense betrayed them yet again, and the O couldn’t get going. It’s the UTEP game all over again. So disappointing. On the bright side, this whole team is back again next year, and they’re going to be a legit BCS threat again. But holy shit do they need to play defense next year.

Wow. Just wow. USC got their asses kicked by Oregon two weeks ago because they were outschemed and slow. This time, they lost because they gave a shitty effort for four quarters. That’s the first time I can say that about a Pete Carroll team since he’s been there. This team, especially the defense, just gave up somewhere in the second half. They decided they couldn’t stop Gerhart and the Stanford offense and figured they’d just take the day off. The middle of the defense was just awful, and no amount of Taylor Mays hits can change that outcome. Looks like Pete is going to have to do some real live coaching this offseason.
The Trojans just sucked today. Stanford didn’t even do anything especially creative other than mix in a few more read options than usual because they probably saw USC’s linebackers have no idea how to stop that play. Andrew Luck’s not even a runner for f*ck’s sake.
In the mean time, every game left on the USC schedule is suddenly in play. They could be beaten every time out from now on. I know Booter is excited about that.

Pick: Boise State wins but doesn’t cover
Final: Boise State 62 Idaho 25
Boise’s roll toward the BCS continues inexorably as there is no one to stand in their way anymore. They’re even more of a juggernaut than TCU. The BCS better not be dicks and make these two play each other in the Orange Bowl or something. F*ckers.

(10) Iowa (9-1) at (11) Ohio State (8-2) (-17)
Pick: Ohio State wins but doesn’t cover
Final: Ohio State 27 Iowa 24
That’s a f*cking lot, Iowa. Ohio State wins yet another Big Ten title and the world has to suffer a little more. Just great. Shit, they might even have a shot at winning the Rose Bowl, since USC won’t be there and it looks like they’ll play Oregon or Arizona. Not exactly powerhouses.
Terrelle Pryor had no discernible effect on this game. He threw for 94 yards and ran for another 31. He did not account for any touchdowns either way. And yet Ohio State still wins by running for 229 yards on a good running defense. What the hell is going on with the Big Ten? It’s like everyone just lays down for the Buckeyes. It’s absurd.
This is a truly awful Ohio State squad, but the Big Ten is so bad this year that they can be conference champions and it makes sense. None of their challengers were so good that it made people think twice. Iowa sucks and got lucky all year. Penn State is a joke with no athletes. And there is no one else out there to stand in Ohio State’s way. Pathetic.

Final: Florida 24 South Carolina 14
Another grinding win for Florida in which Tim Tebow didn’t look great, but wasn’t bad either, and in which they were never seriously challenged. South Carolina was never going to win that game. I’m so unimpressed by Florida, but this year is full of so many flawed teams, it’s really hard to say they have any competition from a major conference team.
I would love, LOVE, to see TCU get their hands on Florida. Boise State is good, but TCU is the kind of good on defense that would give Florida fits. In an unrelated note, I bet $5 Alabama beats Florida in the SEC title game and we get a one-loss Alabama team against an undefeated Cincinnati squad. I’d love to see the BCS try to justify that when both TCU and Boise will be there undefeated…maybe. Gotta take care of Utah tonight.

And THAT, friends, is why Colin Kaepernick is money. Ryan Mathews wasn’t even Fresno’s leading rusher. Neither was Kaepernick, for that matter. Nevada just straight lit FSU’s defense up and managed to make more than a few stops of their own. That’s the part I did not expect.
What an ass-kicking.

You could tell from the beginning of the game that something wasn’t right with Arizona. They just weren’t going to score enough on Cal to win the game, even when they took the lead. I don’t know exactly what it is, but there was just something palpable about the Wildcats tonight. Maybe just the knowledge that they control their own BCS destiny screwed them up. I don’t know.
Even though this was a bad loss, they’re still in control of their destiny. The only Pac-10 team to never play in the Rose Bowl has a legitimate shot at it this year, but they have to win their final three games. I get a feeling Oregon is going to play Ohio State, don’t you?

I don’t care about the stats. The point of this game was for Alabama to hold serve. Greg McElroy did throw two touchdowns while not screwing up the offense at all, but when Florida takes the ballgame and puts it in his hands, totally eliminating Mark Ingram from the equation, what then? Same for Florida when Alabama makes Tim Tebow throw to win the SEC title game. What then?
These are two terribly flawed teams competing for a shot in the BCS Championship game. Worse, if one loses before then, and then the other loses to the first, then a one-loss SEC team could sneak into the BCS and play Texas anyway, totally screwing the system, the fans, and even TCU, Boise State, and maybe even Cincinnati. It’s a f*cked up world.

I take back what I said earlier. TCU is a major juggernaut that could win any of the major BCS conferences. This is a team Alabama, Florida, and Texas should be very, very afraid of playing.
Which is why there ‘s no way the BCS lets an undefeated TCU team into the championship even though they should. An undefeated Texas and SEC team works, but barring that situation, TCU deserves it. Shit, their schedule is already as tough as Texas and Florida’s. Come on. This is becoming a personal issue for me.
Can’t BELIEVE I said this would be a TCU blowout and then picked them not to cover. I’m an idiot.

Didn’t watch a second of this, but I’m disappointed in Tech’s effort. State was vulnerable on several levels, but they couldn’t get it done. Again. It’s the Texas Tech way.

Saw about two minutes of this one and Pitt was in total control. Notre Dame made it interesting, but this was a beaten team. Why the hell do they fall behind like that every game? It’s like their offense has no idea how to play from ahead. It’s pathetic.
But cheer up, football fans. The Charlie Weis era is coming to a close at Notre Dame and the Cincy/Pitt showdown for the last week of the season is lining up nicely. That’s going to be a hell of a game, no matter what you think of the Big East. Five dollars says Brian Kelly doesn’t take the Notre Dame job in the offseason. Sorry MJenks. Hadda say it.

LaGarrette Blount never got into the game, which was like the only point of watching it because Oregon was always going to blow ASU out. Sorry, Sun Devils. It’s a down year.

Manny Pacquiao over Miguel Cotto
Not only that, but I think Pac-Man knocks him out.
Well, he didn’t KO Cotto, who fought valiantly for seven rounds, but Manny Pacquiao got the stoppage in the 12th. He totally owned Cotto from the third round on, including two knockdowns, and gave Cotto a severe beating.
He is the greatest fighter in the world. Hey Floyd, man up and take this fight. If it doesn’t happen by June, you’re officially the biggest pussy in fighting. It’s easy when they’re smaller, slower Mexican fighters. Not so easy when they can’t be killed and are as skilled as you. Go ahead, take the fight. It’ll be the biggest grossing fight ever and the biggest payday of your life. Do it. Do it now. Tonight.
And I’m done updating for the night. Oregon/ASU is a blowout and I’ll update it in the morning.
