Let’s Blow, Buffalo

As Chris Berman always says, no one circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.
Unfortunately, the Bills appear to be perpetually traveling as members of the Donner Party.
A once-promising season is swirling down the toilet after the Bills lost their third-straight game on Sunday, this one a 35-8 blowout at the hands of previously impotent Miami, which has suddenly won three in a row.
And it’s not as if any of Buffalo’s losses have been pretty. The streak began with a dismal 27-11 home loss to the Jets, then jumped up a couple notches with a horrific 44-7 loss at Dallas.
The losing streak does not come as any surprise to anyone that is familiar with the nightmare that is Buffalo football, though. The last time the Bills started a year 5-2, the team rewarded coach Dick Jauron with a three-year contract extension. In true Buffalo fashion, the Bills finished the season on a 2-7 nosedive and were stuck with Dick Jauron as their coach for another year.
Incredibly, the scenario is repeating itself this year. After a 4-2 start, Buffalo signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a contract extension that made him the highest-paid player in franchise history.
The Harvard grad looked like a good investment the next week, leading the Bills to a 23-0 win over Washington. Everything since has been a disaster. Fitzpatrick has thrown for two touchdowns and seven interceptions during the losing streak, a statistic that cries J.P. Losman a lot more than Jim Kelly.
But hey — at least crushing disappointment is nothing new for Buffalo.
