Gaddafi Straddled The Liverpudlian Fence

Muammar Gaddafi’s death this week sparked celebrations as well as outrage - all the while rocking the Liverpool soccer community.

How, you ask?

According to British newspaper, The Mirror, Qaddafi was a big supporter of Everton FC:

“Everton’s win against Sunderland will have provided some temporary relief for one of their biggest fans. That’s none other than umbrella-wielding mentalist Colonel Gaddafi, who has been following the team since the late 1970s.”

I’m sure Momo was tuned into the Sky Sports weekend broadcast as his Sirte stronghold was being overrun by rebel fighters. A real fan watches all 90 minutes, no matter how many you have left on Earth.

“Gaddafi’s love of the Toffees is said to have begun when Everton visited Libya on tour in 1979. The dictator was so impressed he immediately changed the Libyan national side’s kit to all-blue, and rewarded each of Gordon Lee’s side with a luxury Arabic carpet.”

Khadafi probably wishes Everton’s Tim Howard would have been around at the end, because you know, the American is one hell of a shot stopper.

In fact, Everton midfielder Maroune Felliani has gone as far as to rock a look similar to that of a younger Quaddafi.

However, found among Gaddafi’s personal items after his death was a Liverpool FC mug.

For those of you not in the know, Liverpool is Everton’s most ardent rival. The clubs’ stadiums are 0.59 miles apart. Think Mets versus Yankees here, but with a definitive Scouser undertone.

And no, I’m not going to go all Hank Williams on you and compare it to Obama sipping out of a White Sox cup, draped in a Cubs Snuggie while Hitler watches.

Perhaps the Liverpool mug was slipped into Quaddafi’s belongings as a final slap in the face - right after that bullet.

Or maybe Gaddafi was just another in a long line of politicians who like to play both sides.

Anyway, here’s hoping Hell gets Sky Sports.
