Orlando Hudson Takes Ball To The Eye

September 21, 2011 - 12:20 am by Ryan Phillips

San Diego Padres second baseman Orlando Hudson had a nice night at the plate on Tuesday in Colorado. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, while driving in a run and scoring another.

Unfortunately it wasn’t exactly a good night in the field for the 33-year-old. Though the Padres escaped with a 2-1 win the veteran had some issues.

Hudson had a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning. Then, in the top of the ninth Hudson ranged back on a pop up behind second by Dexter Fowler. He dove to try and snag the bloop, but missed and as his body hit the ground the ball bounced up into his left eye at full force.

Worse than that, as he landed Hudson’s momentum made it so the ball got pinned between his eye and the ground momentarily. So not only did he get smacked in the eye, he hit it again on the ground. Hard.

Um, ouch. You can check out the video here.

Hudson remained down for a while, and was woozy when he finally got up. He was clearly in pain and could barely open his visibly pained eye as he was removed from the game.

Hudson is one of the game’s most well-liked players, so we really hope he ends up being alright.
