Roy Halladay Leaves Start Because Of Heat
July 19, 2011 - 5:18 am by Ryan PhillipsLast night the Philadelphia Phillies faced the hapless Chicago Cubs with ace right-hander Roy Halladay on the mound. Easy win, right? Wrong.
Halladay got knocked around and ended up taking his first loss since May 15, and he was removed from the game in the middle of the fifth inning. After surrendering a single to Starlin Castro, Halladay bent over and called for a trainer. He looked wobbly and was clearly not alright, and it wasn’t surprising that he was immediately replaced by Drew Carpenter.
Turns out there was no major injury or big scare. No, apparently the only thing that can take down Roy Halladay is the sweltering heat of the Midwest. It was explained after the game that Halladay was actually getting dizzy on the mound during the game and was visibly sweating profusely. The temperature at first-pitch in Chicago was 91 degrees…for a freaking night game. The humidity was also unbearable (around 60 percent) as Halladay made his quickest exit from a game since 2009.
Halladay allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk in four-plus innings, while throwing 69 pitches.
As someone stuck in the Midwest right now let me just tell you that the weather is, well it’s uncomfortable. More specifically, it feels like I live inside a furnace located somewhere on the outskirts of the sixth circle of hell. I’m not a native of the area, so I don’t know how people live like this. Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to settle this area of the country? When I go outside during the summer my face feels like I’m a Nazi who’s stared directly at the Ark of the Covenant.
So Mr. Halladay, I sympathize with you. Your record fell to 11-4, but your ERA is only at 2.57 and virtually everyone agrees you’re still the best pitcher in the game. Get well soon Roy.

Maybe it’s unbearable because it’s not only stupid hot in the summer, it’s stupid cold in the winter. The worst of both worlds.
