Patrick Ewing To Get An Interview With Detroit Pistons
June 24, 2011 - 9:18 pm by Ryan PhillipsThe Detroit Pistons are still searching for a head coach after firing John Kuester on June 5. Several candidates have emerged over the past month, but the Pistons are still yet to hitch their wagon to a new head guy. Now reports have surfaced that claim a Hall of Famer might be in the mix.
Patrick Ewing will reportedly get an interview with the Pistons. Ewing, who is currently an assistant with the Orlando Magic, has previously expressed a desire to become a head coach in the NBA. From what we can tell, he has as good a chance as anyone in this race, since the Pistons have obviously not been blown away by the current list of candidates. It has taken them almost a month to pick a coach, clearly no one has come out and won the job.
As we’ve mentioned before, Kelvin Sampson is in the mix and has interviewed.
Boston Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank has interviewed and apparently he has come on strong late in the process. Frank was the early favorite for the Toronto Raptors opening - Dwane Casey eventually got the job - and reportedly “blew the Pistons away” in his interview.
Former Piston Bill Laimbeer interviewed for the job on Wednesday and former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson interviewed on Monday. Woodson is reportedly the favorite but the fact that Ewing is getting an interview likely means Detroit isn’t sold on him completely.
