The Miami Heat Lose Third Straight
March 5, 2011 - 2:50 am by Ryan PhillipsTony Parker returned to the San Antonio Spurs Friday night just in time to participate in the team’s utter destruction of the Miami Heat. To be more specific, what the Spurs did to the Heat is most often referred to as a curb-stomping. San Antonio did whatever it wanted, whenever it wanted all night en route to beating Miami 125-95.
It was the Heat’s worst loss of the season and they are now just 1-8 against the NBA’s top five teams.
After the game Miami coach Erik Spoelstra offered some deep analysis of what happened on Friday night: “We basically got blitzed.”
Thanks for that Erik. You can now go back to looking completely in over your head.
The loss was the Heat’s third in a row and fourth in five games. In this one, Miami once again proved that you can’t just throw three star players on a team and solely rely on them to defeat good basketball teams.
LeBron James turned in a solid performance with 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Dwyane Wade added 19 points and Chris Bosh had 17. But Miami got almost nothing out of the rest of its roster. As a whole, after the Big Three Miami’s other players produced a total of 33 points, and Mike Miller had 12 of those.
For example, Erick Dampier provided a stellar line of zero points and two rebounds in 13 minutes. Bear in mind that he was Miami’s starting center on the night.
In the past three games the Heat have faced the New York Knicks (91-86 loss), Orlando Magic (99-96 loss) and the Spurs. Those are three playoff-bound teams. And Miami has lost each game. The Heat’s defense has been horrific (particularly on the interior), their late-game decision making has been suspect and the Big Three don’t seem to be on the same page. So basically they’re playing like most people predicted they would if James, Wade and Bosh didn’t have any help from the rest of the roster.
The Heat have now dropped to third in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls.
I know I can’t be only one enjoying this.
