Julio Jones To The Washington Redskins?
March 30, 2011 - 6:11 pm by Ryan PhillipsAs we approach the date of the 2011 NFL Draft, remarkably few things have really fallen into place. But one result that almost every expert is taking as a forgone conclusion is that the Washington Redskins will select Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones with the 10th overall pick. Seriously, try and find a mock draft where that isn’t the case.
The Redskins were long thought to covet Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, but those rumors have largely died away over the past few weeks. Now, apparently Mike Shanahan and co. think Jones is their man, especially after his ridiculous workout in Indianapolis at the Combine (which he accomplished despite a fracture in his right foot).
It is well known that the St. Louis Rams also covet Jones, but at this point they’d have to make the Redskins an overwhelming offer to move in and take the 6’3, 220-pound wideout.
Jones is an absolute physical freak. Mel Kiper currently has him ranked 11th on his Big Board and says that while he worked out brilliantly in Indy (4.39 40-yard dash) there are still serious concerns about his durability. Those concerns have made him the No. 2 wide receiver on most boards, behind Georgia’s A.J. Green. But when he’s healthy, Jones can dominate like few other receivers. Concerns over his awfully low Wonderlic score (he reportedly got a 15) have mainly been overlooked because of his immense ability.
As of now, unless someone trades up ahead of the Redskins to snag him, Jones will land in Washington on draft night.
