Kyle Boller To Start For The Oakland Raiders?
October 19, 2010 - 2:24 pm by Ryan PhillipsYeah, you read that right, Kyle Boller, the 19th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft and the winner of the Carrie Prejean Sweepstakes, could start for the Oakland Raiders in Week Seven.
With starter Bruce Gradkowski still not even close to ready following a shoulder injury, the offense was handed back to Jason Campbell for Sunday’s game against the then winless San Francisco 49ers. Things didn’t go so well for Campbell, as he finished the day completing 8-of-21 passes for 83 yards (an atrocious 3.3 yards per attempt), with no touchdowns and two interceptions. That gave him a quarterback rating of 10.7. Yes, you read that right. With Campbell in charge the Raiders racked up just 179 yards of total offense in the team’s 17-9 loss.
It’s not surprising that the Raiders have absolutely no confidence in Campbell. In fact, they’re so disappointed in him that head coach Tom Cable has stated that Boller could absolutely get the start Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
For those who don’t remember much about Boller (and we can’t blame you for that) his career numbers look like this: 844-of-1,487 (56.8 percent), 8,745 yards, 48 touchdowns, 50 interceptions and a career quarterback rating of 70.6.
The 29-year-old Boller is in his seventh year in the NFL, and his most notable achievement is being named the NFL’s Sexiest Quarterback during a poll taken in 2007, beating out Tom Brady.
Boller also holds the all-time Baltimore Ravens records for most interceptions thrown (44) and most fumbles (36).
In 2009 as a member of the St. Louis Rams, Boller filled in for injured starting quarterback Marc Bulger. In a Week Four game against the 49ers, Boller threw and interception and fumbled, both were returned for touchdowns. In all, he started four games in Bulger’s absence and he guided the Rams to an 0-4 record in those games.
For his career, Boller has a 20-26 record as a starting quarterback.
So am I just trying to bury Kyle Boller with all of these damming statistics? Nope. Not at all. I’m actually just pointing all of this out, to show you how much the Raiders obviously hate Jason Campbell as their quarterback. They’d rather give Boller a shot than spend another week with Campbell under center.
That’s insane.

Good Grief is right, why can’t they get us a quarterback. I love the Raiders and this is going to cause me to have a heart attack. I thought Campbell was going to save us. Now they are putting in a guy that is worse than him!

Why do we even spend our money on players who are or were HAVE BEENS other teams LEFTOVERS. I have been a DIE HARD raider fan all of my life and im 37 years old but this is getting old. This is the reason why the oakland stadium is NEVER sold out we dont win and by picking players like this it looks like the franchise dont want to win either we need a quarter back who is a leader and a coach who knows how to coach this guy is a joke. Last year we were not even televised on TV it looks like we will be cut short this year again with the remainder of the games who wants to see the same OLD THING raiders lose AGAIN.

This is turning bad real fast. We need to clean house on all these projects. Campbell as qb is a project. Bring back Colt, at least he still has an up side. Our safties are terrible tacklers, that means you Mike Huff. Maybe we need to start fineing players for poor performance on game day. To wear the Silver& Black is an honor not a privaledge.

hey, who thought bruce gradkowski would be a good qb for the raiders??? dont write off boller hey may not be pro bowl material but he may provide a fill in spark for a few games…HE HAS GOT 2 BE BETTER THAN 87 YARDS PASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt all along that Gradkowski would do a good job for us. He should have been the starter at the beginning of the season. It’s a shame he got hurt. Campbell is a total dissapointment.

In retrospect, Jason had the game of his career and was the QB of record to establish a new Raider franchise record for 59 points in a game. Good thing he started, not Boller, or the Raiders may have been on the wrong end of the 59-14 final score.
I’ve been a Raider fan long enough that I remember the last QB the Raiders drafted who stayed with the team long enough to have a career with the Raiders. That was Kenny Stabler, drafted in 1968. Let’s hope that the game was not a major fluke and that Jason Campbell will continue to satisfy Raider fans. If not, since Al Davis, as owner, will not fire himself from being GM, we Raider fans may have to wait until the Raiders have a new owner before we could realistically expect drafted QBs to become successful while still a Raider.
