Jay Culter To Miss Chicago Bears Game On Sunday

Word has just come down from on high (ESPN) that Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will not play Sunday while recovering from a concussion. The Bears will instead start Todd Collins at quarterback against the winless Carolina Panthers.

Cutler was concussed during Chicago’s 17-3 loss on Monday. The Bears’ offensive line allowed 10 sacks and nine quarterback hits on the evening. Cutler suffered nine of those sacks while going 8-for-11, for 42 yards and tossing an interception.

Team and independent doctors examined Cutler this week and determined he could practice but that it was a bad idea for him to participate in Sunday’s game. This will be the first time in his career that Culter has missed a game due to injury.

The 38-year-old Collins had a rough night after relieving Cutler in the second half. The 16-year vet out of Michigan finished the game completing 4-of-11 passes, for 36 yards, an interception and a 8.1 quarterback rating. Collins was eventually knocked out of the game as well with what was originally described as a stinger.

So with about four minutes left in the game, the Caleb Hanie Era started in Chicago. Though the kid didn’t look horrible, it’s probably a safe assumption that he’ll resume his spot on the bench until further notice.

It might be a good idea to pass on Collins and Hanie in your fantasy leagues this week. Something tells me the Bears will be running. A lot.
