Chicago Blackhawks Victory Parade: Scenes From The Mayhem

June 11, 2010 - 2:02 pm by Ryan Phillips

Being that I happened to be in Chicago this week I figured it was my duty as a sports blogger to attend Friday’s victory parade celebrating the Blackhawks Stanley Cup championship. Booter - our resident legal expert - and myself headed downtown for the parade and rally at roughly 10:15 a.m. and got way more than we bargained for.

The city was expecting something around 350,000 fans lining the streets as the players and Lord Stanley’s Cup rode through the city and up Michigan Avenue. That’s the number of Chicagoans that showed up to celebrate when the White Sox took home the World Series trophy in 2005.

To say the city’s brass underestimated the town’s love for its Hawks would be putting it very mildly. The last estimate I heard from the city of Chicago is that 2 million people showed up for the rally.

Two freaking million.

We were right in the middle of the madness for most of it, but couldn’t get a great angle for the parade. So for the rally portion, we moved back across the river in an attempt to actually hear the speeches, etc.

We’ll add additional photos as we get more of them uploaded, but after the jump you can get a taste of what we were up against. I will also try to get video of the Hawks passing us on Wacker Drive raising the cup as soon as we can get it up.

Enjoy!
