Like We Needed Another Reason To Hate Notre Dame

For the second year in a row, Notre Dame’s basketball turned out to be a huge disappointment. Despite having All-American Luke Harangody and a decent supporting cast, the Irish bowed out of the NCAA tournament in the opening round in a 51-50 loss to Old Dominion.The loss was all the more disappointing because Notre Dame was a popular pick to make a bit of a run as Harangody got healthier.
Notre Dame finished the season 23-12, which isn’t terrible but a first round exit in the tournament in the season after they ended up in the N.I.T. is awful. Talk about a bitter disappointment for Harangody. Last season the Irish looked poised for a big year and after starting 10-2, they finished the regular season 17-13. This year, they started 12-2 and finished the regular season 21-10.
The Big East is a brutal conference, so it’s not surprising that Notre Dame took a serious tumble after great starts two years in a row. The problem is, they won’t have Harangody anymore, so how are they ever going to win games in the future?
I mean, if they weren’t going to win this year or last year, when are they going to win? I’m not a Notre Dame fan, but I’m one of the many people who put faith in them to at least perform at a level even relatively close to their potential. Naturally they screwed me over, because Notre Dame sucks at life.
Before you ask, no, I’m not bitter. Hell, I’m not even mad - I’m disappointed. And as anyone who has ever had parents will tell you, that’s much, much worse.

Don’t forget, two years prior they were the first (and only) victim of Winthrop in the NCAA tournament.
But here’s the thing: ND played better down the final stretch of the season without Harangody. Probably because more people got touches on the ball and defenses couldn’t just double down on him, knowing that all of the offense will be running through him.
This is a problem with Brey’s coaching style: one scorer, with another guy giving a few points and three other roll players who, if they get some points, good, if not…meh, who cares.
And despite all the of the decent to pretty good talent the Irish had, no one could score a lay-up in six minutes? ND ended up with 50 points total; Ohio had 48 and 49 in each half last night.
So, ODU…clearly a better-coached, more rounded team. It’s time to sever ties with Mike Brey and his mock vampire look. It won’t happen since he gets the team to the tournament, recruits decently, and we just paid Chuckles millions of dollars to NOT be our football coach anymore, but I can dream about a Brinks truck with a shamrock on it driving down US-31 to Brad Stevens’ house, right?
Or not, because I kind of like having Butler be good…

Yeah, Stevens honestly is perfect for Butler. I don’t see him leaving any time soon unless he gets a HUGE offer. Look what happened to Todd Lickliter.

I agree. I think Stevens is pretty happy in Indianapolis. I might be wrong. I think he might have jumped ship for Indiana, but I do get the feeling that he’s going to be to Butler what Mark Few has been to Gonzaga.
