The Bloodiest ‘Ultimate Fighter’ Ever

Wednesday night, Spike premiered the 10th season of UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter.” The show features the future Mr. T, Rampage Jackson, as a coach and Kimbo Slice trying to prove he’s more than a homeless man beating people up in back alleys.

The tenth season also boasts three former NFL players trying to make their way in mixed martial arts. Though calling Matt Mitrione and Wes Shivers former NFLers is putting it generously. Mitrione, a former Purdue defensive tackle, got nine games with the New York Giants in 2002. Shivers, a 7th-round draft pick by the Titans, enjoyed a three-game NFL career with Atlanta.

The third of the trifecta is a bit more well known. Marcus Jones was the 22nd overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He played six seasons with Tampa Bay, starting 39 games. His best season came in 2000 when he finished the season with 13 sacks. However, if the first episode is a harbinger of things to come, he won’t have much of career in MMA.

This season’s first episode ended with a bout between a much taller and muscular Abe Wagner against a pudgy former college wrestler John Madsen. The pre-fight eyeball test said Wagner would win. The during fight eyeball test had me hiding behind my blanket.
