Thrilling NBA Trade Deadline Recap!!!
February 20, 2009 - 3:26 am by Ryan PhillipsGet excited guys (and, to be fair, gals) the NBA trade deadline passed and it was a doozy. It was so great that John Hollinger, Chad Ford and Rick Bucher reportedly started making out in the back office at ESPN because they were so turned on.
It was just an incredible countdown to the deadline with a flurry of activity that might even change who ends up in the lottery come June!
Let me recap the top names moved yesterday:
Whew, that’s a lot.
That rumored Vince Carter for Tracy McGrady deal? Nah.
Carter to San Antonio or Dallas? Nope.
What about Carter, Richard Jefferson or Caron Butler to the Blazers? Sorry.
Shaq, Antawn Jameson or Carlos Boozer uniting with LeBron in Cleveland? Negative.
Amare Stoudemire traded from Phoenix? Didn’t happen.
Chris Bosh to Chicago? Nada.
Ben Gordon to the Knicks? Uh uh.
Hell, the only big deal that actually happened this week got rescinded.
So what did happen as the deadline approached?
Uh, Rafer Alston went to Orlando in a three-way deal. While that may sound hot, it wasn’t that type of three-way.
Chris Mihm, the Lakers’ fourth center, went to Memphis. And Los Angeles even paid the Grizzlies to take him. How does that work exactly?
The Bulls got a broken down Brad Miller and John Salmons from the Sacramento Kings for Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni. Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly the change Chicago fans were looking for.
Then Chicago sent Larry Hughes to the Knicks for Jerome James, Tim Thomas and Anthony Roberson. So now the Bulls have, what, 27 players on their roster?
The Knicks got Chris Wilcox from Oklahoma City for Malik Rose. That move is so lame I don’t even have a snarky comment for it.
Oh shit! Oklahoma City got Thabo Sefolosha! That deal is sick! The Thunder got Kevin Durant a running buddy who couldn’t crack the Bulls lineup! Sefolosha is so good Oklahoma City even waived Mouhamed Sene just to make room for him!
In their drive to go back-to-back the Celtics sent Patrick O’Bryant to Toronto, and cash to Sacramento for a conditional second-round pick. Nice?
Last, and probably least, two guys who were stars four years ago got traded for each other last week.
So there it is, your entire recap of the NBA trade deadline. Wow, I’m literally fanning myself right now because those tantalizing deals got me so riled up.
