A.J. Smith Has Jumped The Shark
January 23, 2009 - 10:28 am by McDThis was originally going to be my own hate-filled rant about Chargers’ GM AJ Smith and his growing Woody Hayes-like insanity. Instead, I’ll just let Yahoo!’s Michael Silver say it for me:
“Make no mistake: Deciding whether Tomlinson will remain with the Chargers, at least privately, is part of Smith’s job. Snidely tweaking LT in public, whether it’s an attempt to bait him into asking for a trade or simply a glimpse into Smith’s power-mad psyche, is part of the reason his job should be in jeopardy.
It leads you to believe that A.J. stands for Antagonistic Jerk.”
Maybe Smith was just joking when he mimicked LT’s “I have no intention of leaving San Diego” quote because it’s just so absurd the Chargers would cut ties with the most beloved player in franchise history.
But given his history of being a pompous ass (see Schottenheimer, firing of), and his non-denial of the LT rumors, it’s more likely Smith is mocking LT and everyone else who has an intense interest in whether Tomlinson returns or not.
Smith was always a great talent evaluator and assembler of teams, but he got so good at it ”The Lord of No Rings” has become too arrogant even for Southern California. So let me address him directly:
Mr. Smith, I thank you for your years of service and the excellent job you did assembling a 14-2 team and then purposely destroying that same team in a fit of pique. I also thank you for getting rid of any talent we had at middle linebacker and along the offensive line. Trust me, you’re not as good as you think you are. And if you cut, trade, or otherwise get rid of LaDainian Tomlinson, all you’ll do is prove you’re the most massive tool in the toolbox. Check yourself, fuckbag.
I’m out.

I couldn’t agree more. While A.J. has been a great evaluator of talent, he has turned into (unless this is how he has always been) an arrogant, stubborn ass with a god complex. Now this probably has more to do with LT’s agent, Tom Condon, than anything…but bottom line is LT hasn’t lost a step! He is still one of the best RBs in the league, and in the history of the game. He has missed 2 games in his 8 year career. He has had legitimate injuries…..last year, he did his knee and Turner was able of stepping in. This year he had a bad toe and then a torn tendon…..not much can be done about that…..they are injuries…….considering their pro-bowl center and some of the O-line was injured/out the first half of the year…..AND AJ got rid of LoNeal….AND the offense went from a power run game (under Marty) to a pass happy offense (which didn’t use LT much- remember LT had a 100 catch season 5 years ago)………..so take into account all that, and LT is probably gonna end up statistically being the best RB of alltime (2 years removed from an MVP and the best offensive season ever by a RB)…….HE STILL RUSHED FOR 1200YDS AND 11 TDS……LT has plenty in the tank and doesn’t deserve to be done like this……p.s..how come nobody is writing Willie Parkers obituary…..he was injured this year and missed 6 games….only rushed for 700yds…..is he in decline?
