Come On Maria, We Need You

You know, tennis in the United States isn’t very good right now. Who do we have to root for? Andy Roddick? The Williams sisters’ tired act? James Blake? Yawn.

All this means is this month’s U.S. Open needs all the help it can get to actually matter in the sporting scene. We already know the outcome on the men’s side, don’t we? Come on.

And then comes the news that Maria Sharapova’s shoulder injury, which forced her to withdraw from the Olympics, will also force her to miss the trip to New York for the U.S. Open. Dammit. We all lose in this scenario.

Not only is she amazingly attractive, she also happens to be very good at tennis. At a time when tennis hardly matters in these United States it’s a real shame. Plus we don’t get to see any tennis skirts or here unnecessary grunting.
