Damien Woody and Scott Mitchell have been announced as cast members on the upcoming season of “The Biggest Loser.” I’m sure this isn’t how two former NFL players thought they would be making headlines after their playing days, but when life hands you lemons…I guess you squeeze them over pork rinds and eat those damn things.
Woody played guard for the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and New York Jets, made the Pro Bowl in 2002 and won two Super Bowls with the Patriots (XXXVI, XXXVIII). He played 173 games over 12 seasons before retiring after the 2010 campaign. The 36-year-old is listed at 6-3 and has already ballooned up to 388 pounds. His final listed playing weight was 330.
Mitchell is probably best known for his four-year stint as the starting quarterback for the Detroit Lions. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. He finished his career with a completion percentage of 55.5 percent, 15,692 passing yards, 95 touchdowns against 81 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 75.3. He played 11 seasons in the NFL before retiring at 33 years old in 2001.
Mitchell was listed at 6-6, 240 pounds during his playing days, but he’s now up to 366 pounds and according to his bio on NBC’s website he retired from “everything” when he stepped away from football, including staying in shape.
Woody and Mitchell will be competing against several other professional and collegiate athletes who have also gained a ton of weight.
