Cleveland Browns running back Ben Tate claimed on Tuesday that rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel is getting far too much attention from the media. Tate also said that if he were Manziel, he would be wary of the all the exposure he’s getting.
Tate signed with the Browns on a two-year, $7 million deal this offseason, and other than Manziel he’s probably the team’s biggest offseason acquisition. He seems like a perfect addition to the team’s running back rotation, especially in new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme. Despite being a new addition himself, Tate clearly feels perfectly at home speaking his mind.
He had the following to say about Manziel:
“I feel like it. He hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet. So…I don’t know…That’s for y’all to figure out.
“It’s just as a player I know that I would get tired if people were constantly monitoring if I picked my nose, if I spit to the left or right. I mean, it’s annoying. He’s a human being.”
He went on to defend Manziel a bit:
“He’s a great football player so I understand why he gets some of the constant media attention. At the same time I just figure at this stage he’s tired of it and he wants to come in here and do his job and try to win the starting quarterback position.”
Tate likely faced some backlash on Twitter, because he responded:
And for ppl trying to say I dissed Johnny I got 1 finger up to yall and it’s not my pointer. My point was I’m sure he is tired of it all

And just wants to be left alone to play football y’all too worried about what he does in his everyday life that’s all I was saying — Ben Tate (@BenTateRB) June 3, 2014
We doubt this is the last we’ll hear from him on the subject.
