On Wednesday night the Los Angeles Kings were attempting to become just the fourth team in NHL history to come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. Veteran center Anze Kopitar did his best to make sure that happened.
In the second period of Game 7 against the San Jose Sharks, Kopitar scored an absolutely sick goal that deserves another look.
Late in the second period, Kings winger Justin Williams drove down the right side of the ice deep in the Sharks’ zone, while Kopitar drove to the front of the net. Williams then fired a pass to Kopitar, who collected it, paused for just a split second, made a quick move to the right and backhanded the puck into the net.
Kopitar’s move was so subtle and quick, but absolutely fooled Sharks goalie Antti Niemi, who went the complete wrong way on the fake and left the goal wide open.
The goal gave the Kings a 2-1 lead.
