Houston Rockets guard James Harden is one of the most explosive offensive players in the NBA. The 24-year-old, two-time All-Star averaged 25.4 points and 6.1 assists per game during the 2013-14 regular season. Simply put, he’s one of the toughest covers in the NBA and drives opposing defenders nuts with his ability to get to the rim and hit long jumpers.
With all of that said, the man is an absolute sieve on defense. Seriously, Harden might be the NBA’s worst defensive guard. Don’t believe me? Oh man do I have evidence for you.
The video below (posted by YouTube user HowU) is a selection of Harden’s “defensive highlights” from the 2013-14 season and it is amazing. For a guy with so much court-awareness on offense, he looks completely lost on defense. He gets caught ball-watching more than your average sixth grade rec league player.
Also, if someone on the opposing team gets a rebound, chances are it’s Harden’s guy because he simply refuses to block anyone out or even bother locating his guy when a shot goes up. It’s embarrassing. And hilarious.
