There are no words for how funny the video below is. After the Indianapolis Colts beat Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos 39-33 on Sunday night, cornerback Vontae Davis made a bit of a slip-up in his post-game interview.
On the field following the win, Davis was asked by NBC’s Michelle Tafoya how the Colts were able to slow down the Broncos’ offense. He said the following: “Well, we had a good week of practice, we prepared really hard for Tom Brady.” Oops.
It’s funny because of all the hype surrounding Manning returning to Indianapolis to face his former team. Heck, there are homeless people in Indonesia who probably knew the Colts were facing Manning for the first time back in Indy this week, yet a starting cornerback for the team had apparently forgotten.
The first thought that ran through my mind was, “Dang, how good is Vontae Davis when he actually prepares for the right quarterback?”
Also, Davis was probably not paying any attention during the Colts’ extensive pregame tribute to Manning.
It’s also funny because for most of his career, Manning has been compared to Brady. For some, Brady’s Super Bowl accomplishments have overshadowed the dominance Manning has shown during the regular season. The two men are the best quarterbacks of their era, yet they are so different. How could anyone confuse them?
Yes, Davis certainly suffered a slip of the tongue, but some will also see it as him possibly deliberately slighting the returning Manning. I guarantee some yahoo somewhere will claim that, but that’s obviously not what happened.
Still, this rates highly on the unintentional comedy scale.
