The San Diego Chargers pulled off a big upset on Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts, scoring a 19-9 home win over Andrew Luck’s team.
The game was sealed when kicker Nick Novak nailed a 50-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining in regulation to make it a two-score contest.
How big was that kick? So big that it elicited the following reaction out of quarterback Philip Rivers:
Had anyone else been caught on camera doing that, my first thought would have been “that was very Philip Rivers of him.”
Rivers was clearly enjoying himself and the fact that his team improved to 3-3 after Novak’s field goal. He’s also probably in a good mood because his wife is in the hospital expecting the couple’s seventh (no, that’s not a typo) child.
Rivers put in a great performance Monday night, completing 22-of-33 passes for 237 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. He out-gunned Luck who completed 18-of-30 tosses for 202 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception.
The Chargers also got a great game out of running back Ryan Mathews, who ran the ball 22 times for 102 yards. Rookie wide receiver Keenan Allen also had a breakout game, hauling in nine passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.
