A group of Jacksonville Tim Tebow loyalists decided to hold a rally Monday outside of EverBank Field in an effort to pressure their hometown team to sign the hometown boy.
Operating under the motto “Jags-Tebow Why Not?”, the fans planned the rally at 3:16 p.m. to coincide with Tebow’s love for the bible verse John 3:16.
Alas, they were unable to get even 316 souls to show for the rally. According to various media types who showed up to cover the thing, the attendance was closer to 15. I don’t think that is quite what they were hoping to draw. Then again, it looked like there were about 100 people at the home opener, so maybe this was a good showing.
But even though the Jaguars offense has looked incapable of moving the ball against a group of blocking sleds in the first two games, it doesn’t look like there is sufficient public pressure to give Timmy a shot.
But it got me thinking — maybe there’s another unemployed quarterback who fans can pressure the team to sign. He’s a former No. 1 overall pick with a chip on his shoulder, looking to prove all the haters wrong. A man with a cannon of an arm who is intent to prove he has more than a walnut for a brain.
That’s right folks. I’m talking “Jags-JaMarcus Why Not?”
Spread the word around. We’ll schedule the rally for 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday at the same location outside of EverBank Field. Bring signs and an imagination vivid for the magic of a deep JaMarcus Russell to Justin Blackmon touchdown connection.
Or, you can just rally to encourage the Jags to stay the course and lose out for the coming of Johnny Jagball in 2014.
