For his final movie role, Alex Karras is apparently reprising the part of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail’s” Black Knight.
Karras, a former University of Iowa and Detroit Lions standout defensive lineman who went on to even greater fame as Mongo in “Blazing Saddles” and George Papadapolis in the 1980s sitcom “Webster,” is reportedly in the last days of his life after suffering kidney failure.
However, he was pushed into his grave a bit early by ESPN sports business reporter Darren Rovell, who tweeted “RIP Alex Karras. You will always be George Papadapolis to me.”
Karras, who punched out a horse in the role of Mongo, would probably love having a similar shot at Rovell right now. Turns out Darren misread the news, and took down the offending tweet once that fact was sorted out.
Rovell’s Twitter account has been amended to read “Misread the news on Alex Karras. Glad he is alive. Sad he is gravely ill. Webster was such a huge part of my childhood.”
That much we can all agree on.
