Eric Gagne claims 80 percent of Dodgers teammates juiced
September 25, 2012 – 11:14 pm by HickeyAccording to a report from ESPN Los Angeles, former Dodgers closer Eric Gagne admits to using HGH over the last three years of his career and claims that 80 percent of his LA teammates were using performance-enhancing drugs in his new biography “Game Over: The Story of Eric Gagne.”
I would have verified this myself, but it turns out the biography is written in French, and I did not take that course in high school specifically because it would have increased the chances of me having to interact with French people.
Gagne doesn’t pull a Canseco and name names in his book, so it will be rather easy for his teammates to brush off the claims and say “He’s just trying to sell books.” However, I’d maintain that if he was trying to sell books, the thing would be written in English.
Since Gagne isn’t naming anybody, we’ll just go ahead and show you the rosters of the 2003-05 Dodgers and let you try to guess which one-fifth of these guys is clean. (You’ll never believe that Kevin Brown is on the list of possible PEDÂ suspects!)
Gagne’s more significant admission is that he used human growth hormone over the last three years of his career, during which he sucked very badly. Baseball tests for HGH during spring training and the offseason, but not during the regular season or playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Bud Selig reacts to this admission by trying to amp up HGH testing, though clearly there will be a fight back from the players association.
