On Thursday Chad Johnson pleaded not guilty to battering his wife Evelyn Lozada, and reports suggest that he has also joined her in filing for divorce. It had been about a month since Lozada first filed her petition.
Reports are saying that Johnson filed his response to Lozada in a Florida court within the last two days and a Sept. 19 court date has been scheduled to finalize the divorce. According to sources contacted by E! news, the divorce shouldn’t be messy or drawn out, since there was a 40-page prenuptial agreement.
Lozada was formerly engaged to basketball player Antoine Walker, and the pair had a 10-year relationship. That relationship led to her being one of the six main cast members of the VH1 reality series Basketball Wives.
Her brief courtship with Johnson was depicted on Basketball Wives, and they were married on July 4 of this year.
But things didn’t last long, as the two got into an altercation on on August 11, and Johnson was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge. The incident led to Johnson being released from the Miami Dolphins.
After that, Lozada filed for divorce on August 14, but Johnson refused to sign any divorce documents as recently as last week. The 34-year-old former Pro Bowler was reportedly desperate to reconcile with his wife, and even got a tattoo of her face on his leg.
Now he has apparently thought better of a reconciliation and is giving and letting go. In fact, Johnson took to Twitter and seemed to take responsibility for the demise of the relationship on Thursday.
