Denver Nuggets Give JaVale McGee Four-Year, $44 Million Contract

JaVale McGee has become one of the more…interesting players in the NBA, and last year he became a huge part of of the Denver Nuggets late last season. Well, now McGee will be a significant part of the team for the future as well, as he agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract with the Nuggets on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old 7-footer averaged 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.16 blocked shots in 61 games last year for the Washington Wizards and the Nuggets. He arrived in Denver from Washington in exchange for Nene back in March.

McGee is incredibly athletic for his size, but he’s a bit of a bonehead. In fact, he’s done some ridiculous stuff in the past.

But he’s also so dangerous in the post, that as a young, athletic guy he might be worth the risk. The Nuggets have given some awful contracts in the past, so this will certainly be one to watch in the next few years.

For his career, McGee has averaged 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Those are incredibly low numbers for a guy who is now set to make an average of $11 million over the next four season.
