Bubba Watson won the Masters this past weekend and he caught the attention of most observes for his play and the fact that he was using a pink driver. That limited edition Ping club is used by Watson to raise money for various charities.
Ping – which is based in Phoenix and sponsors Watson – started a fundraising campaign earlier this year called “Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping.” The company has donated $10,000 already and every time Watson hits a 300-plus-yard drive with the club, Ping will chip in an extra $300. To date, the campaign has raised $61,600.
Now you can get in on the action. Ping will make 5,000 of the limited edition G20 drivers with the pink shaft and head (stop giggling) available for the public to purchase. The clubs will sell for $430, and Ping will donate five percent of the proceeds to the campaign.
In addition to that, Watson launched “Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million” in January, with the hope of raising $1 million for various charities this year through the help of other golfers and donations from the public. The Ping campaign is a part of Watson’s overall initiative.
Watson began using the pink driver at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines to raise awareness about cancer prevention and research. Something tells me his incredible week at the Masters raised all the awareness he’ll ever need for the initiative.
