Jim Irsay Begs To Differ

February 3, 2012 – 1:44 am by Ryan Phillips

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, who has come across like a massive tool throughout this whole Peyton Manning saga, just tweeted about his veteran quarterback’s health at 1:25 a.m. eastern time.

Irsay had the following to say regarding reports that Manning had been cleared to resume his football career: “Peyton has not passed our physical nor has be been cleared for The Indianapolis Colts. Team statement coming on Friday.”

Now, I’m sorry but why did Irsay even feel the need to take to Twitter and announce this at 1:25 on a Friday morning if a team statement was coming? Personally, I think he must have been hearing from fans that they wanted Manning to return now that he may be healthy.

Irsay has been saying for months that the team’s decision regarding the four-time MVP will be based solely on health. An easy way for him to keep his word would be if Manning just happened to fail the team’s physical.

While Irsay and Manning have publicly claimed that their relationship is sound, I don’t think anyone believes that. Things have been deteriorating for a while, and this late-night announcement from the Colts owner shows that he feels a need to counter any news about Manning with his take on the situation.

This latest incident has finally pushed me into the camp that believes there is no way Manning will ever play for the Colts again.

  3. Yep. He was hearing from fans. I was one of them and then he blocked me!

  4. Irsay is showing his true colors. It’s obviosu that when he made a statement late last year that if Peyton was healthy he wouyld be a colt, it was due to him believing 100% that Peyton would never play again. Now he’ll do everything to try and convince Colts fans that Peyton is unhealthy and can’t play.

  5. Irsay is a clown. Like many rich business owners today, he believes that he is more important to the business than the people that actually make the money. However, he is mostly detriment to the team. Without Peyton, the Colts probably would have stayed in mediocrity through the 2000’s.

  6. It certainly does look as though Irsay wants to move away from Manning being a Colt. As to the teams physical, if Manning’s personal doctor has cleared him to play you would think the team doctor would clear Manning to play. The real question becomes where will Manning be playing in 2012?

  8. Would Isray just shut up? It is not like Indy is one of the so-called America’s teams or even a popular one. I’ve never heard anyone say “Colt Universe/Nation” or anything remotely close to that. Ever since he started tweeting on a regular basis- Indy has gone downhill. I understand the “starting fresh” approach in his front office, but he is slowly ruining whatever amount of street cred he has to the casual NFL fan and I wouldn’t blame free agents or even his own players for not wanting to play for him if he keeps this up.

Because Ryan, you’re not that good.

Last night on ESPN the scroll showed a story thats said Peyton had been throwing to Colts recievers and that doctors had said if he were playing this weekend he’d be cleared to play. Irsay must have seen the scroll or been informed about it and tweeted the true information.

So quit trying to be like everybody who hates Irsay and get your facts straight before you post junk like this article.

  10. S.R.,
Wow you just completely missed the point of this didn’t you. The thing is, Manning HAS been cleared by his doctors, that has been confirmed by multiple sources. He HAS been having informal throwing sessions with Colts players, again, that has been confirmed.

What Irsay was saying is that Manning had not been cleared by the COLTS’ doctors. Basically it’s his weasely way of saying that as far as he is concerned Peyton isn’t healthy, therefore he could be free to cut him and still be technically keeping his word.
