The above video shows Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe running faster than should be humanly possible for a man of his size. In fact, it’s amazing.
Poe entered this week’s NFL Scouting Combine as a probable first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Poe is expected to become a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense and was considered one of the top five defensive tackles in this draft class. Thanks to his workouts – highlighted in this video – Poe might be one of the first defensive players taken on April 26.
Poe measured in at a mammoth 6’4″ and 346 pounds, the ripped off a combine-high 44 bench press reps at 225 pounds. He followed that up with a 4.98-second 40-yard dash, a 29.5-inch vertical leap, a 105-inch broad jump, a 7.9-second performance in the three-cone drill and a 4.56-second 20-yard shuttle.
That combination of agility and athleticism for a 346-pound guy is simply ridiculous.
No one at this year’s combine made himself more money than Poe. Period.
In fact, Mike Mayock called Poe “a once-in-a-decade athlete.” And I don’t think anyone will argue that.
The guy showed himself to be insanely athletic at his size and will definitely be the first pure nose tackle to go in the 2012 draft, and may have moved himself into the top 15.
