Denver Broncos fans love them some Tim Tebow. In fact, as you may have heard, they even plan to buy two billboards in Denver imploring the Broncos to start Tebow in place of current starter Kyle Orton.
Today, Tebow let his feelings about such a gesture be known, and apparently he appreciates the support but isn’t sure that’s the right thing to do.
“Well I guess I appreciate the support, you know, but we got people in charge that we trust and (I) trust they’re going to do the right thing.”
Tebow then said it would be a good idea if the fans donated the $10,000 to put up a billboard to a charity.
Tebow didn’t beat out Orton for the starting quarterback job, and, frankly, he didn’t even come close. He also lost out to Brady Quinn for the backup job, though they are listed as co-backups. That didn’t matter to Tebow’s fans, who chanted for him during Denver’s 23-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders Monday night.
The fans booed Orton – who finished the night completing 24-of-46 passes for 304 yards, with one touchdown and an interception – then cheered for Tebow. Orton is now 11-18 as the Broncos’ starter.
Despite all the agitation, head coach John Fox is not moved to change anything.
“Right now we feel like Kyle Orton gives us our best chance. Even the staff before us felt that way. I think he’ll improve this week, and I expect him to. Right now he’s our starting quarterback. There’s no question about that.”
Sorry Broncos fans, billboard or not, it doesn’t sound like things are going to change any time soon.
