It seems like we’ve covered a lot of legal issues over the past few days, and here comes another.
The mother of one of Terrell Owens’ children says the former All-Pro receiver has refused to pay the full $5,000 a month in child support he owes. Melanie Paige Smith filed papers in an Atlanta court on June 20 seeking to hold Owens in contempt.
Atlanta attorney Randall Kessler said that Owens “has failed and refused to pay the full amount of child support for June 2011.” Owens’ financial advisers have told Ms. Smith that their client has decided to no longer pay the full amount.
Kessler claimed on Wednesday that Smith doesn’t have any ill will toward Owens, but she expects him to comply and pay up.
Owens has at least four children (there are conflicting reports on how many kids he actually has), including a three-year-old son whom claims he has never met because of hard feelings between himself and the boy’s mother.
Owens is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s a six-time Pro Bowl selection, a five-time All-Pro pick and was a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s. He is currently rehabbing from offseason ACL surgery but he plans to be ready by the start of the season.
We find it funny that a guy who has make tens of millions of dollars is bitching over paying $5,000 a month in child support. Dude, T.O., it comes with the territory. If you don’t want to pay, don’t have kids.
