Jose Mourinho Going Back To Chelsea?

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is widely regarded as the greatest coach in all of sports. The self-styled “Special One” has created juggernauts wherever he has gone since his first job at Benfica in 2000. Now, he might be headed back to the place that made him an international superstar.

Fresh off a Champions League title at Inter Milan last year, Mourinho took the helm at Real Madrid and has guided his squad to the Champions League semifinals. Despite that success, rumors are starting to swirl that Mourinho could be headed back to Chelsea next season. Jose has long said he wants to return to English Football, but would he be willing to return to the place he was drummed out of in 2007? Mourinho was by far Chelsea’s most successful manager ever, but public disagreements with Russian owner Roman Abramovich prompted his abrupt departure on September 20, 2007.

Despite that, Mourinho has always looked back fondly on his time at Chelsea and many of his core players are still with the team. Those players are at the center of the reports that Jose would return. The team’s star players are reportedly urging Abramovich to bring Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge after this season. Current manager Carlo Ancelotti will almost definitely be fired after the season.

The players are also suggesting that another former Chelsea manager, Guus Hiddink, be brought in as the director of football, which would create a buffer between Abramovich and Mourinho and hopefully help to avoid internal strife.

The question now is whether or not Abramovich would be able to bring himself to take “The Special One” back, thereby essentially admitting that he made a huge mistake by letting Mourinho go.

Honestly though, if you’ve seen Jose’s BBC Three show you know the world would be a more perfect place if he was back in the EPL. Only certain people can pull off having a puppet-based chat show and being a world class manager.
