Northwestern (7-5) vs. Texas Tech (7-5) (-9.5)
Thank God for Wikipedia or I would have reached the limit of the effort I wanted to put into finding out about this bowl game. Apparently, it’s being played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas since the actual Cotton Bowl game is being moved to Cowboys Stadium. There, now you learned something while recovering from sitting alone in your apartment and not answering your phone because you’re pretending you had plans.
Neither of these teams seem to be very interested in the defense, so if you’re looking for an entertaining shoot out on New Year’s Day to help you with the hangover, this is your best bet.
I love it when stats like “Northwestern hasn’t won a bowl game since 1949” get thrown out there only for us to find out they’ve only had seven chances in the intervening 61 years to even play in a bowl. So really they’re just 0 for their last seven bowl games, and they’re not on a 61-year losing streak.
If Dan Persa were playing in this game, I might be tempted to take the Wildcats to end their 0-7 streak in bowl games, and I’m even more tempted because of the rumors surrounding Tommy Tuberville. If the players feel there’s even an iota of truth to them, there’s no way they’re going to come out and play well enough to beat even a mediocre Northwestern team. The Wildcats are going to be fired up to win their last game, and Pat Fitzgerald isn’t going anywhere.
