Possible Nicknames For Shaq With The Celtics
August 4, 2010 – 1:35 pm by Ryan PhillipsAs we know, Shaquille O’Neal loves to give himself nicknames. Over his career he’s referred to himself as “The Diesel,” “Shaq Fu,” “The Big Aristotle,” “The Big Daddy,” “Superman,” “The Big Agave,” “The Big Cactus,” “The Big Shaqtus,” “Wilt Chamberneezy,” “The Big Baryshnikov,” and “Dr. Shaq.”
Now that he’s (reportedly) signed with the Boston Celtics, we feel it’s time someone else dropped a nickname on the big guy.
So here are some Boston-related nicknames for the big fella’ to choose from.
The Big Minuteman
This, of course, has nothing to do with the Revolutionary War, instead it’s a reference to how long it takes Shaq to get up the court on offense.
The Big Sully
Let’s face it, every group of friends in Boston has someone named “Sully,” right? At least, that’s the way we imagine things. Yeah, we’ve seen Good Will Hunting one too many times. So naturally we think “The Big Three” in Boston need a sidekick named Sully. How you like them apples Kobe?
The Shaq On A Hill
Boston is often referred to as “The City on a Hill,” because of Massachusetts Bay Colony’s governor John Winthrop’s vision of creating the Biblical “City on a Hill.”
The Jolly Green Giant
Come on, the guy is huge and he’ll be wearing green. We can’t be the only ones thinking this.
The Big Leprechaun
Again, pretty obvious. So Shaq has apparently embraced his Irish heritage and signed with the Celtics. What? The guy’s last name is O’Neal.
The Big Bean
Obviously Boston loves its baked beans. Hopefully Boston fans will love their new center.
Tito
Why? Because Jermaine O’Neal will open the season as the Celtics’ starting center and is younger than Shaq. The elder O’Neal “brother” will be there to backup Jermaine. Much like another brother in another famous family.
The Boston Pop
The city of Boston’s takes much pride in its symphony orchestra the Boston Pops. Shaq, being the oldest active player in the NBA is certainly the “Pops” of the league.
Two more additions to the list from our very own Hick Flick:
The Bigger Nasty
There is no bigger compliment from a Bostonian than “he’s nasty.” Well, since Corliss Williamson was already “The Big Nasty,” I guess that would make Shaq “The Bigger Nasty.”
The Black Nomah
“Black Nomah” kind of sounds like “Black Mamba” when said quickly. Plus it plays up the incredibly over-hyped rivalry Shaq has with Kobe Bryant. But we’ll be honest, we only really put this on here so that we had an excuse to hear Boston fans say “Nomaahhhhhhhhh” again.

Hahaha, I like The Big Minuteman and the Big Bean.
Tito is pretty good as well.
How about Baby’s Daddy
Because he is the elder of the two large men that went to LSU…Also it will not allow Glen Davis to get away from his nickname, no matter how hard he tries.

The Big Shamrock
By Chris on Aug 4, 2010
Clearly, “Shaq-aih ar la” would be the best, which is a take on “tcoidaih ar la,” meaning “Our day will come” in Gaelic.

The Big Dig
The Green Monster
The Black Larry Bird

Shaqtic. You don’t have to add the cheesey “Big” infront of it and it sounds mystical and Irish at the same time.

Chris is right … has to be the Big Shamrock. It’s the first thing that pops into your head without thinking about it.

How about the “Big Breakdown”. At this point of his career, all he will do is collect his paycheck while only playing 20 full games out of the season. Shaq, I think it is time to retire…

Can’t believe I didn’t think of the Big Shamrock. +1

By Drizzle on Aug 5, 2010
“The Big Three.”
‘Cause, you know, he weighs as much as Allen, Pierce, and Garnett combined and all…
“The Big Anchor.”
‘Cause, you know, he’ll weigh this team down and all…
“Shaq-mus O’Neal.”
‘Cause it’s a play on the classicly Irish name “Seamus” and not very original…like most of the names the Big Soundbite has given himself over the years.
Good luck with this guy, Boston. And by “good luck,” of course, I mean “EAT IT!”
‘Cause, you know, I’m a lifelong Lakers fan and all…

I love Shaq, he has a great sense of humor, he seems like the gentle giant. I like these two possible choices, 1. Boss Celi, Shaq Celi. Good Luck Shaq, I’ll be watching.

he is as big as a rock and as sterdy, so let just call him an immoveable object. No matter how old he gets as long as he can move up and down the court in descent time, he will be a force. Even for Dwright Howard.(who by the way is arguably the best center in the NBA)
