Bryce Harper Gets Ejected, JUCO Career Gets Goose’s Fate

Apparently, a lot of people don’t like Bryce Harper. They think he’s a no good, cocky punk. Take a few snapshots of any 17-year old kid and you can draw any conclusion you’d like. I got laid on occasion, it didn’t mean I was some lothario. (Oh, how I wish…)

A month ago, I was directed to this interesting piece in the Washington Post, which examines the perception that Harper’s attitude is the only chink in the armor of The Next Natural.

He skipped his final two years of high school baseball for the greatest Junior College statistical windfall in history. But he’s also rubbed a bunch of baseball people the wrong way. The whole sour grapes thing knowing he’s the sure-fire No. 1 overall pick for the Nationals next week. And if he ends up playing catcher, he’d make one hell of a pairing with some kid named Strasburg.

But tales of Harper’s malcontent attitude continue. And getting ejected Wednesday in the JUCO World Series therefore earning a two-game, season-ending suspension won’t do anything to calm concerns.

Is any team seriously not going to draft this kid because he got ejected for showing the umpire the correct strike zone. Seriously, that pitch is almost a foot outside. For a 17-year old kid who is obviously head and shoulders better than everyone, it has to be frustrating to have mere mortals f*ck sh*t up, ala Jim Joyce. (Couldn’t help myself.)

If we listen to some scouts, Harper is the next coming of Milton Bradley. Please. This kid is the next nothing. He’s the new prototype.

  2. Were they playing that game in a sandstorm? Holy shit, that ball was in the other batter’s box. Please tell me his manager came out and went apeshit. Still can’t show up the umps though, especially as a catcher himself.
