It would be an unlikely marriage, but the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that DePaul will be talking to Bob Knight in regards to its coaching vacancy.
Knight, the all-time winningest coach in Division I history, has worked as a color commentator for ESPN the past two years. But with ESPN cohort Steve Lavin moving to the Big East at St. John’s, perhaps it shouldn’t be such a surprise that the Blue Demons are trying to make a move on someone behind the mike.
All of Knight’s previous coaching stops — West Point, Bloomington and Lubbock — have been fairly safe from the media spotlight, though it always seems to find him anyway. Chicago will be vastly different, but an offer of $2.5 million a year may be enticing enough for The General to come back out of retirement.
