This is not a new coaching tactic. My grandpa once told me of going to a Bears game at Wrigley Field where they were playing the Rams or Giants and someone picked off a pass and was running down the sidelines for a touchdown. That is, until George Halas stuck his foot out and tripped the guy. The Bears took the 15-yard penalty and the defense held them out of the end zone. Or so the story goes.
