The ending to the Uruguay game was also pretty damn good (about 2 minutes after the Argentina game). Ecuador was something like 15-1 at home (9,000 feet above sea level) and playing for a WC berth. Each team scored within a minute of each other earlier in the second half and Uruguay just dug in for the last 30 minutes. Uruguay had gotten screwed out of a penalty kick earlier on what should have been an easy call that the announcers repeatedly denounced.
So they’re in extra time, Argentina just scored their winning goal (meaning we need the win even more) and about 3:15 into the 3 minutes of stoppage time, we get a penalty kick. Forlan puts it in for the last play of the game and they win. Wednesday’s Uruguay-Argentina game could be epic.
