We’re talking about Detroit.
Of course, this might actually be the light at the end of the tunnel. Detroit’s day of liberation, if you would. Because the WNBA is one thing that sucks even more than Detroit.
The Shock were one of the most successful franchises in WNBA history, winning three titles. Yet they are still headed out of town.
The most successful franchise in WNBA history? The Houston Comets, who folded before last season even started. At least the Shock found a sucker that would buy them.
Perhaps the model of going to towns that don’t have a major professional team is the one thing that will allow the WNBA to succeed. But until we get evidence to the contrary, it’s hard to believe that the league will still exist another 10 years down the line. At least Detroit should still be around by that time.
