Denver Broncos team sources have told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Chris Simms will be out two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain. You know what that means … It’s Orton Time baby!
It looks like Kyle Orton will have to play far more than was originally thought in the team’s final two preseason games. If the Broncos don’t pick up a free agent or make a trade while Simms is on the shelf, Orton and 2009 draftee Tom Bradstater are the only quarterbacks on the roster. Awesome.
Seriously folks, set your TiVos for those games. Given Orton’s performance in Denver thus far, they could the most entertaining things to happen all year.
This also means that Orton is likely to be the starter for the team’s week one tilt in Cincinnati. And with the way Simms recovers from injuries, we wouldn’t be surprised if The Spleenless Wonder isn’t available until week four.
So with the acrimonious trade of the team’s incumbent Pro Bowl quarterback, a disgruntled top receiver and the possibility of Orton Time extending until midseason I’d say the Josh McDaniels Era is off to a rousing start in The Mile High City.
