Never has a nickname been so appropriate.
Glen “Big Baby” Davis has had a tough time this summer as a restricted free agent, because no one has really come calling after him. The Boston Celtics have offered him a minuscule contract, as they wait to see if another team will give the power forward an offer they’d need to match. With the economy the way it is and teams restricting spending a year ahead of the 2010 free agent bonanza, Davis has gotten left in the lurch and it’s already August.
Well, Big Baby is none too happy with the Celtics and his lack of a bigger offer. And after Boston signed power forward Shelden Williams to a one-year contract earlier in the week, Davis vented his frustrations on Twitter.
“Why is this (thing) taking so long!!! I really don’t understand!!!!”
“Anybody know what’s going on with the Celtics? Cause I don’t!”
“Well I’m not worried about Shelden!!! Great guy and great player!!! But we are different players you know!!!!!”
“I wonder how the weather (is in) Boston cause I haven’t been there in so long!!!!”
“I like some of you guys’ ideas!!!! (I’m) going to tell Danny (Ainge) about some of you guys’ ideas!!!! I don’t know why they sign (Williams) before me!!”
“Well I don’t know where I’m going to be!!! Where (you) guys think I’m going to be!!! Who needs a pf?”
First off, Glen, calm down on the exclamation points buddy. One sufficiently displays your level of excitement or agitation. Second, maybe if you would have averaged more than 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in the 21.5 minutes per game you played last year, more teams would be interested.
Plus, you cried on the bench after Kevin Garnett yelled at you, not cool dude. You’re 6’8 and laughably listed at 289-pounds, maybe you need to get tougher and less doughy. People like their power forwards to be intimidating. Just my advice, take it or leave it.
But definitely keep whining on Twitter. I’m sure the Celtics are loving that.
HILARIOUS UPDATE: Davis now claims the Twitter updates were made by an impostor! Dun, Duhn Dun! Oh no! There’s a Twitter bandit on the loose making comments on athletes’ accounts…Or Davis just got drunk and went nuts on his own account…I wonder which is more plausible.
