Instant Analysis: Jarrod Washburn To Detroit

July 31, 2009 – 3:41 pm by Ryan Phillips

The Detroit Tigers added Jarrod Washburn earlier in the day, surrendering left-handed starter Luke French and Class-A lefty  Mauricio Robles to the Seattle Mariners.

Washburn immediately solidifies the Tigers’ rotation depth, and he’s an immediate improvement over the 23-year-old French, who is going to have growing pains adjusting to the major league level. Washburn will give the back end of the Tigers’ rotation a capable starter who has been as effective as anyone in baseball recently. In fact with his performance this season, Washburn essentially played his way out of Seattle.

If the 34-year-old Washburn can continue his recent string of great starts, and basically replicate what he’s done so far (8-6, 2.64 ERA, 1.07 WHIP), then the Tigers may have just locked up the AL Central.

  3. Don’t worry Pablo, it’s coming. I needed a few days to clear my head, get my thoughts together, etc.

    Probably Sunday night/Monday morning.

  4. It takes time to process these moves. Complicated deal, lots of guys, upsides vs downsides, business and economic aspects to take into account.

    Complicated mathematics will be involved.

I predict that the final answer will be “stupid jerks are ruining my team”.
