Jagr and Lemieux were considered, but given Mario’s retirements the two didn’t actually play together that long. And when Mario came back one could argue that Jagr was the superstar.

Orr and Esposito is a very good one. But you could argue that Esposito wasn’t a true sidekick because he was also insanely popular and broke and set records in his own right.

Stockton and Malone we decided were equals, therefore they didn’t make the list. More of a great duo than a sidekick situation. Shaq and Kobe fell into that category as well.

McHale AND Parrish were Bird’s sidekicks, but this was more about individual guys.

La Russa and Duncan were considered but we thought Mazzone and Cox were more appropriate to what we were looking at here, since Duncan is really a behind the scenes guy and Mazzone was always front and center.

All very good suggestions though.
