Robert Horry has seven rings. Tommy Heinsohn has ten. Jerry West lost in seven NBA Finals and Elgin Bayloe never got a ring. It’s just the way it goes.

Nick and Ben I totally understand what you mean. Even Mark Madsen has a couple of rings. My point is that it has to kill all those greats that never got a ring. Karl Malone basically killed himself for about 20 years on and off the court in pursuit of a title and never got one.

Role players such as Redick (who as Nick points out, has actually played pretty well) and bench warmers/trade detritus (Morrison) win rings every year. Last year there was Gabe Pruitt, plus Scot Pollard; in ’07 see Jackie Butler and James White, and check out how much Earl Barron and Matt Walsh contributed in ’06. Since basketball’s a team sport though, we can only assume these guys did their jobs as well as anyone in the league, as their teams won, and therefore deserve their rings. While Malone & Miller were obviously better than all these guys, their job was to be option #1, which they didn’t do as well as the guys on the teams that beat them in the finals (namely, Jordan & O’Neal).

If the magic somehow pull it out (i’m a fan) i can say JJ did a fair share. Although they have lost the first two in the series, look at Kobe’s numbers against Redick. The black mamba may have very well met the albino mongoose.
